Classroom peak part 2

I always love going into a classroom and going "wow" that's awesome. Often I find that I consult with teachers about behavior issues, etc. and sometimes all that needs to happen is a change into the arrangement of a classroom. So I am going to start sharing some rooms that I think really encourage student achievement. Here is a sneak peak of one of those rooms.

Classroom Before and Afters

After 3 years of pleading, begging, bargaining, proving, and persuading I finally got an entire classroom to call my office. My principal told me I had really grown into it, which I think is proof that I have a school wide program that is catching some attention.

Although it's not done yet, it's getting there so I'll share a few pictures of my room, some inspiration behind it, and rooms I admire and have admired from my years at my school.

Before:

My office last year was an old electrical closet. Here are two pictures from it. It was dark, and you only had room to take about six steps to get from end to end.

This was a book case, I covered half in fabric so you couldn't see the clutter.

The only planner you'll ever need!

My dear friend (and it's not just because of her love of the royal family) is doing a pre-sale of her super cute items for Middle Tennessee teachers. I can't encourage you enough to share her site with your teachers. It's just full of resources to help them with common core, lesson planning, organization, etc. She is a wealth of knowledge! I often found that I learned more from her when we consulted than I think I was teaching her.

Here is a sneak peak of some of the items and the links so you can get your own. I plan on using this binder for my planner this year. It's well thought out, has plenty of room to write, and I think it's great for goal setting.

A bird, A squirrel, No ADHD and the perfect book!

Each year I find myself thinking of ways to talk to students about ADHD and Autism. We have many students with these diagnosis and I think it's important to educate their peers. I have found that the classrooms with the most lack of knowledge are the ones that have the most bullying and vice versa. So when I (well really Mrs. Shepherd our music teacher) found these books I almost screamed. They are perfect!

They are a fun, adorable way to help others understand what each syndrome looks like. I also think they would be good to use with students with a recent diagnosis understand and deal with the news.
I really can't wait to use them next year, so I bought them immediately.

I just love my job.
"Brooklyn" took over my principals office. I love having fun at work.

What do you do all day?

Sometimes I find it very hard to explain my job. I am getting used to the "well I mean I am sure there isn't much counseling in elementary is there?" questions, but I still find it's hard to get my staff on board.

I am my own ship, my own department, my own team most days. I am always trying to "sell" my position and avoid the "what do you do all day?" questions.  So not only does my new form help with data collection, organization, and case notes; I hope it will also help with the "what does she do behind close doors" inquiries without breaking confidentiality.

Documentation is without a doubt one area I always feel like I need to improve upon.

This year I am creating a small group binder, a individual binder, a parent involvement  binder,  behavior binder, etc. So today I set out making some consistant paper work to go in them.  Here's what I came up with and a new behavior plan I helped develop for the special area crew:

Sneak Peak of my new classroom

This summer I have been filled with other projects that I love. Flat Stouie has really started to take off  and I am very proud! Not to long ago I hit that part of the summer where I got excited and decided to go crazy getting things for my new classroom. I can't wait to show you the before and after pictures, but for now here is a sneak peak of a sculpture that will be gracing my new room.
